At General Air Conditioning & Plumbing, we want every in-Palm Springs and the surrounding areas to have access to clean, safe, and delicious-tasting water straight out of the tap. While most water in the area is safe to drink, it isn’t always the highest quality. Chemicals and minerals in the water can contribute to poor-tasting water or water that causes problems in the plumbing system. One solution for bad-tasting water is water softeners. These devices can help you avoid some of the many plumbing problems that hard water can cause.
Our plumbers at General Air Conditioning & Plumbing install, replace, and repair water softeners. We can help you determine what type of system is right for your home so that you can begin soft water.
Are you looking for a plumber who can install hard water softeners and water filtration? Call or message General Air Conditioning & Plumbing today for information about our water softener installation in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and La Quinta.
"We received excellent education and advice regarding available options for the replacement of our old, failing, whole-house water conditioner-softener system. With no hard sell pressure. Upon choosing one option, Hector, the technician from Genera, returned to perform an excellent installation of the new system. His performance was so impressive, we chose to engage General to provide ongoing maintenance service for our HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. Via joining their annual membership program." - Info I.
Sometimes it can be challenging to find the right solutions for your tap water. Tap water can have harmful contaminants, minerals, or both. The perfect choice will depend on your situation.
Water softeners are ideal for homes that have too many minerals such as calcium and magnesium. They can even help to remove small amounts of iron from the water. While higher mineral levels are not considered harmful, they can cause many different problems in the home. They can cause build-up on the inside of your pipes, hard water stains on your fixtures, stains on your clothing, and dry skin and hair. If any of these problems are plaguing you or your family members, it may be time to consider a water softener installation from General Air Conditioning & Plumbing.
What Types of Water Softeners Are Available?
Depending on the problems that you are experiencing in your home, you may need different water softener options. Here are some of the choices you may have for your home.
Water Softeners Without Salt
You may have already heard about water softeners that use salt to remove magnesium and calcium from the water. But at General Air Conditioning & Plumbing, we also offer water softeners without salt. This type of device is a water conditioner that crystalizes minerals such as magnesium and calcium instead of removing them. This prevents them from forming scale. This type of system can be a good choice if you want to remove and prevent scale without taking out the minerals or adding salt.
Water Softener Shower Head
If you are happy with the water quality throughout the rest of your home, but you don’t like the way your skin and hair feel after a shower, you can consider a water softener shower head. This type of device is easy to install on most shower heads. When you turn on the water for your morning shower, the shower head will get to work making sure the water that comes out is perfect for the health of your skin, hair, and nails.
Water Softener Vs Reverse Osmosis: Which Do You Need?
The question of whether you need a water softener vs. a reverse osmosis system in your home is best answered after we have a clear picture of your home’s needs. While a reverse osmosis system can remove minerals, it isn’t always the most efficient way to take magnesium and calcium out of the water. Reverse osmosis systems are ideal for getting rid of other contaminants such as chlorine and may waste a lot of water if used on their own to soften the water.
Hard water softeners can be used in conjunction with a reverse osmosis system if you have problems with both contaminants and high mineral content in your water. If you are just having problems with mineral content, a water softener by itself is the better option.

Fast, efficient and friendly. The General Electric team installed new white can lights under my stairs. My ceiling is 15 feet high. They changed the goggles and switch plates, while rewiring my triple light switch outlets and dimmers. Great job.
Great service !!! Technicians were on time Kevin and Tim ! Had some kitchen island pendants installed and chandelier. Also maintenance on A/C , heater very happy with the service! Highly recommend!
Excellent company with a proven track record and a wonderful legacy of charity work as well. Professional, thorough and friendly. Tim Done was an incredibly professional that gave my wife and me the sense that he was doing a tremendous job with a ton of care with just the right amount of humor!
Tim was very cordial. He listened to my issue. He diagnosed the cause and explained to me. He promptly fixed the cause. It would be a pleasure to gave Tim service my AC and Heater anytime ... thanks 😊
Always professional, courteous, and gets the job done. TY! Sales recommendation lately seems to be pretty high this time the recommendations weren’t imperative.
In one word, Awesome! Kevin Velazquez had all the answers and really knows the world of heating and air conditioning. He has a down to earth easy quality without any pressure. He represents General Air with pride and true knowledge of the product. BRAVO! I have to add that he got my Sensi thermostat connected to Wi-F again, which I was having trouble with. He was amazing. Thanks Kevin, a job well done.
Jorge was on time and immediately diagnosed the problem from the thermostat error dump. Errors started cropping up after July 5, until the system shutdown around July 10th. I could see there was a problem remotely on the thermostat when the thermostat shutdown. General was able to get someone out here within my timeframe as I was out of town. The system needed Freon and a very thorough cleaning. I had never seen it so dirty. Due to low Freon, the system was stressed out.
Had General Air Conditioning Technician Carlos Milan perform a semi-annual inspection of our Heating and Air Conditioning system. I was very pleased with the way he explained in detail the work performed. He was very careful and neat replacing filters and accessing the Heater unit in our attic which had to be accessed from our closet. I gave this 5 star rating because of Carlos professionalism, knowledge, and neatness while working in our home.
MICHAEL IRVIN is so professional, efficient and very prompt that we always look forward to his return on each service call. (We try to request him each time!!) Although, the best part is Mike’s happy personality!! THANKS AGIAN FOR TODAY MIKE!! (MAY 12, 2020)
Immediate service. Spent a lot of time evaluating the situation and clearly explained the likely cause of the issue and what he did to fix it. Very pleasant too.
Multiple mechanical failures on 8-year old top-of-the-line Lennox system have been disappointing. Kevin’s consideration of the servicing history went above and beyond. We appreciate his understanding and his focus on delivering a positive customer experience.
