Once You Go Ductless You’ll Never Go Back

We hear it all the time at General Air Conditioning & Plumbing, complaints about uneven cooling or heating, a room or area that’s either too cold or too hot.

If that’s a problem in your home, then you need to call the General and talk to us about one of the best solutions, ductless mini split heat pumps. They can add cooling or heating to a particular location in your home without having to add any ductwork.

You can have as many as four indoor air handlers connected to one outdoor condenser. Each one of those indoor units can be set to a different temperature (also known as “zoning”) allowing for personal comfort and being a more efficient use of electricity.

Mini splits are also easy to install. Because there’s no ductwork, all that’s required is a three-inch hole to connect the air handler to the outside condenser. In addition, the outdoor unit can be up to 50-feet away so you can disguise it in the landscaping or hide it behind the house.

A ductless system is also a more efficient system. A typical central HVAC system can lose as much as 30% of its heating and cooling capacity as the air moves through the ducts, before it even gets into the living areas of your home. That’s not the case with mini splits. Every bit of the cooled or heated air is delivered to the specific living area.

In new construction it can save a lot of money because it doesn’t require expensive ductwork. If you’re remodeling and turning a garage, attic, or basement into living space, it’s a fantastic way to heat AND cool those areas that may not be connected to your current central system.
