The never-ending waves of utility bills can be frustrating, to say the least. Sometimes it feels like you are sinking underwater struggling to break the surface, only to slip under again. While we can never make those utility bills totally disappear, General Air Conditioning & Plumbing can offer a buoy to help you stay afloat, avoid costly repairs and keep your system in tip-top shape.
At the top of the list is scheduling regular A/C maintenance and tune-ups. This will keep your HVAC system running efficiently and is the No. 1 way to reduce those utility bills, while extending the life of your system. One small – but vital – part of routine maintenance is changing your system’s air filters on a regular basis. New or clean air filters cause better air flow and enhances air quality. Here are a few other energy-saving tips:
- Seal the various gaps and cracks around your house’s windows and doors. You will be amazed at the amount of air that leaks out (or in) in those areas, leading to a system that runs more than it should.
- Keeping an empty house cool can rack up a good electric bill. If you have a programmable thermostat, make sure you use it. If not, don’t forget to turn up your thermostat when you are leaving.
- Uncovered windows act as heat-generating magnifying glasses, so close curtains and blinds during the brightest, hottest parts of the day.
- Don’t let problem rooms impact your energy bills. Some rooms seem to be either too hot or too cold and we tend to crank up the A/C trying to make these uncomfortable rooms comfortable. Not only is this costly, but it creates more wear and tear on your system.
