Save Money by Improving your Home’s Performance

Efficient, late-model air conditioner

Regular tune-ups and maintenance

New programmable thermostat

Recent duct cleaning

Yup, all ready for summer. Whoa, not so fast. Don’t break your arm trying to pat yourself on the back just yet.

General Air Conditioning & Plumbing commends you for each and every one of those actions. But it takes a team effort to keep your house cool during our hot desert summers. You could still be wasting money and prematurely wearing out your home air conditioner because your home doesn’t “perform” well.

All that means is the home and construction is the problem. The way to solve that problem is something the Home Performance Contractors from the General can handle.

Here’s one little example. Did you know a little extra attic insulation can extend the life of your air conditioner? Think about it. The less conditioned air escaping (or unconditioned air getting in) means your condenser isn’t running as often. Less wear and tear on moving parts means a longer life. The same holds true for wall insulation.

But insulation is just one part of Home Performance Contracting (HPC). It’s a relatively new specialty on the cutting edge of modern home maintenance. All part of the effort to use less power and reduce your carbon footprint.

The General’s professionals will conduct a home energy audit to make sure your house is performing well. Among the tests are these two:

Thermal imaging:

This high-tech test provides dramatic evidence if your home is leaky. It shows where the conditioned air is getting out or the hot air is getting in. You clearly see the leaks around doors and windows or any location where insulation materials are lacking.

Blower door test:

This test will figuratively “blow your doors” off. It creates negative pressure within the home to measure the total air leakage. If there are any leaks in your air conditioning or heating systems, our experts will find them. Did you know central systems can lose as much as 30% of their cooling and heating efficiency through the ducts before the conditioned air even reaches the living areas in your home?

The General energy-saving experts will do so much more than tell you where the problems are. More importantly for you is a plan to fix them. Whether it’s spraying more insulation or AC service to make your system more efficient, you will receive a specific plan to upgrade your home and save energy.

The goal is to assure clients their homes meet the most stringent standards for energy efficiency and comfort. The General is different than many HVAC companies by adhering to the Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards. Technicians are Gold Star Certified by BPI. It’s just another reason to call on “The Best Little Air Conditioning and Plumbing Company in the Desert.”
